A stalled programme, unstuck: Salesforce live in three months
An international trading business · International trading
The client’s digitalisation programme had taken far longer than they had anticipated. A fractional CTO changed the pace: within three months of taking the role, Salesforce was live, with a single view of the global pipeline and a consistent way to manage orders worldwide.
The situation
The client runs a complex international trading operation, connecting suppliers and customers worldwide. The business had committed to a digitalisation programme, with a Salesforce implementation as its first major step, but progress had taken far longer than they had anticipated.
What the programme needed was not another supplier or more software. It needed senior technology leadership inside the business: someone to own the direction, make the decisions stick, and build the team’s confidence to deliver.
What we did
Take the role
A fractional CTO role inside the digitalisation programme, working as part of the leadership team rather than advising from outside it.
Coach the team through the implementation
Supporting and coaching the business through the Salesforce implementation, so decisions were made quickly, stuck, and were owned by the people who would live with them.
Set the direction beyond go-live
Shaping the next phases of the programme, including the use of AI agents to automate parts of the business and drive further efficiency.
Outcomes
The results
- Salesforce live within three months of taking the role
- A single view of the global sales pipeline
- A consistent way to manage orders across the business worldwide
- A digitalisation programme with momentum, and a defined next phase
